Paul Johnson and Michael Mauboussin have been Adjunct Professors in Finance at the Graduate School of Business, Columbia University, in New York City for the past 14 years. During this time they have created a complete set of lecture notes, homework assignments, essays in Securities Analysis and related research reports. In addition, they have developed a comprehensive bibliography of related books and articles. They currently teach the following three classes: Securities Analysis - Fall - The purpose of this course is to provide students with a realistic view of the role and activities of an equity security analyst within the investment process by building a construct of how capital markets function and teaching the "thought process" involved with securities analysis. Professor Paul Johnson. Advanced Seminar in Value Investing - Columbia Business School is the academic home of Benjamin Graham and the birthplace of "value investing." The Value Investing course extends the core finance curriculum to include the value approach to investing based on the original tenets of Graham and Dodd. Professor Paul Johnson Securities Analysis - Spring - The goal of this course will be to gain a basic understanding of the thought process involved with security analysis. Academy Awards - Paul and Michael have drawn interesting parallels between how capital markets work and an experiment whereby the students are asked to predict the winners of the Academy Awards.
